Financial Aid

Graduate Students

Successful Ph.D. applicants will receive full funding from the university. Here is how:

Graduate Division Stipend

Usually awarded as part of a larger fellowship package, these dollars go directly from Graduate Division to the student.

The student receives quarterly disbursements at the beginning of each quarter of their award.

A typical stipend is typically $5,000 per quarter, that is a total of $15,000 per academic year in addition to your fees being paid!

Research Assistantships (GSRs)

Graduate Students Researcher positions are available periodically to assist faculty with research throughout the academic year and often summer.

This type of funding is contingent upon your advisor’s funding and will take the place of your Graduate Division Stipend once it has been expended.

Employment Awards

Students who are appointed at 25 percent or more during an academic quarter as an ASE employee are entitled to Partial Fee Remission (PFR) and Graduate Student Health Insurance Premium (GSHIP) remission.

This entitlement pays the entire health insurance premium and the student’s mandatory university fees.

Special Grants

Engineering students at UC Riverside have had great success in being awarded grants from outside agencies such as NSF Graduate Fellowship grants, IGERT grants, special Graduate Division awards, and many more.

M.S. Applicant Funding Options

Several forms of financial assistance are available to 90 percent of our graduate students. Financial assistance includes fellowships, teaching assistantships (TA) or graduate student researcher (GSR) appointments, and tuition and fee grants. Offers of financial assistance may be multiyear, combining fellowship and TA and/or GSR appointments. Other forms of support are need-based and administered through the Office of Financial Aid .
